So Damn Bright

I think “youths” is a funny word. Not sure why.

Next week: We get to know Flikker a little better.

This strip seriously sums up so much of my own feelings about life right now. Never is absolutely right and I totally appreciate this being said in a comic. It makes your characters much more relatable, Erich. Bravo.

  2. Noelle says:

Wow. I'm not sure they could get through the door of that house in panel two.

  3. ChrisC says:

I think we just got the whole thing that this comic is about. Or at least just about it.

  4. wallfish says:

I think "youths" is a funny word, too. But I think it's funny because I hear Joe Pesci saying it like he did in "My Cousin Vinny."

  5. Nararauko Withwonell says:

Panel 5 you missed a perfect opportunity to use the phrase "So Damn Bright"

  6. theorbtwo says:

On the other hand, I want to congratulate you for not giving in to the impulse to stick your title in the dialogue.

  7. Mark says:

I hope that's just the beer talking. The future is as bright for Never and the others as it is for the new highschool grads — better, in fact, since they've got some life experience. Nev IS right about Real Life being confusing and frustrating — that never changes. It's only simple & predictable when you're dead.

I remember going to my graduation, and they said the same thing. Then I went to my sisters graduation a few years later. The valedictorian said the same thing too. What the hell? Can't they think of something original?

    • ErichPerry says:

The salutatorian at my high school graduation spent his time basically saying "DEATH PENALTY BAD", which left everyone dumbfounded at how irrelevant it was. So that wasn't much better.

      • Ellsbells says:

When I graduated from college, the speeches were: impeach Bush, democrats will save us all, and government corrupt and bad. I sat there, pondering the political punditing shoved down my throat and drank my margarita in a gaterade bottle.

  9. Emily says:

I wish I could use my college degree… or at least if it was worth something. :(

  10. Sightsoblind says:

"My cousin Vinny" thats why youths is a funny word.

Vinny: The two yoots yah honah'
    Judge: ???

  11. T.S.Millar says:

Well, my Valedictorian was going on about how what we learned in high school is useless. Twas fantastical. As for Never, put what you want in your life, that's all that's expected of you.

…getting to know Flikker while wearing that same outfit she has on now hopefully. :-)

  13. Salmonfish says:

I thought fairies or whatever couldn't lay on their backs, for obvious reasons?

  14. snakewich says:

I was a little confused by the positions of the characters across the panels.
The order kept changing from the first half of the panels.
Making their apperance seem more convientent for how the text was laid out, which I am sure wasn't the reason.
It just kind of cutdown on the flow the eye over the comic.
Not a big deal, but I found it interesting.

  15. amedio3k says:

the positioning made sense to me…Flikker was sunbathing in the back, and Never was sitting next to Jill. Then, Anxiety sat down on the other side of Never. Jill got up and got another beer from the cooler, and sat next to Anxiety instead of walking back around to where she was. Flikker got engaged in the conversation, so she got up and moved to the end. :shrugs:

  16. Hosebeatings says:

Why is the fairy necessary to this comic? Is there going to be some real reason for her to be one, or is it just "ZOMG FAERIES ARE TEH KEWLIES?" Or worse, is she there just to be "different" or "random?"

  17. Hosebeatings says:

I didn't mean this specific strip, I mean the comic overall.

  18. Lilith says:

wow…this really hit the nerve…. i was just thinking about the crap in my life today and how i hate my major and how i wasted 5 years on it in school with not much of a prospect of using it in the future…this really hit the nerve…and how i wish i was one of those lucky few who know what they want to do and most importantly are good at what they do…
